What To Do If Your Car Temperature is Running Hot

If your car's temperature gauge indicates that it is overheating, this could mean that you are extremely low on coolant.

If this happens, pull over to a safe location and turn off your engine. Do not attempt to open the hood until the car has completely cooled or the temperature gauge has moved from hot to cool. Likewise, never attempt to remove the radiator cap or reservoir cap when the engine is hot as this can cause injury.

After your engine has cooled, check the coolant/antifreeze level in the radiator. If you have a severe leak, you should be able to see it. If this is the case, do not attempt to drive. It is best to have your car towed.

If you do not see a leak and the coolant level in the reservoir is normal, you may be able to drive it to a nearby auto service facility.

One way to prevent overheating is to get a Midas Coolant/Radiator Flush. This service removes contaminants, rust/scale deposits and lubricates the water pump and can protect your vehicle against rust and foam.

Remember, overheating is not normal and can't fix itself. Before heading to our shop, be sure to visit our online shopping cart to avail of our great online deals!
